10 Things You Can do Now to Prepare For 2024: HR Checklist

It’s getting towards that time of year where we’re all preparing for a new strategy for 2024. Whether your organisation works on the calendar year, or you’re getting in early for an April start, you’re likely to be planning ahead. We’ve got some tips on how you can get ahead of the game. Let’s dive straight in...

HR checklist 2024

Having a couple of easy wins in your back pocket can help you feel like you’re making progress. What can you do now to put you in the best position to smash your people targets?

Here’s our checklist of actions and activities to help you put your best foot forward!

  1. Get started on the road to future-proofing your business by building a listening strategy. “How can I do that?” you ask. Don’t worry about it, we’ve created an eBook to take you by the hand and lead you through the entire process.

  2. Think about how you’re going to factor both employee happiness AND engagement into your people strategy - because that’s where the magic happens! Planning for both will set you up for success.

  3. Get your employer brand on point - now’s the perfect time to spruce up your careers site, and any social channels to make sure your purpose and culture are clear to everyone who works with you (or really wants to!)

  4. Go through your recruitment process and materials to make sure they’re all in line with your employer brand - this will have a huge impact on your ability to recruit the right people for your organisation.

  5. Send your senior leadership team a surprise gift of our co-founder, Matt Phelan’s latest book ‘The Happiness Index’ (sure we might be biased, but we think it’s the best way to ensure they understand why happiness is so important in the workplace and how to improve it!)

  6. Collaborate with other HR professionals to understand what challenges they are facing and how they plan to address them. Why not join our community of forward-thinking HR experts?

  7. Create an awareness day calendar, which contains all the key religious dates and diversity, equity, inclusion, and wellbeing days in 2024. Here's one we made earlier > downloadable awareness day calendar.

  8. Start a Happiness Task Force - identify people from across your organisation who want to join an action group for the coming year. This way you will get feedback on your strategy, and new ideas and help your organisation understand that employee happiness is everyone’s business, not just an HR initiative.

  9. Spend time cleaning up your HR data. Taking time before you launch into your strategy to make sure everything is clean and accurate will mean you’ll be able to measure your impact more easily. Don’t have a degree in data? No problem! We have an eBook to help get you on the right path.

  10. Take a real break - if you’re overstretched and overwhelmed, not taking the rest you need will put you on the fast track to burnout! Now is the perfect time of year to kick back with a mince pie or two and enjoy some much-needed time off - without the guilt!
