CLARITY NEUROSCIENCE THEME

WHAT THIS MEANSIN THE WORKPLACE

Clarity is the simplest of our themes to understand but often an area that is underestimated in its importance to help employees feel engaged at work.

Clarity is the ability to think without distraction and to concentrate on relevant information and tasks. It is an essential driver of productivity - a lack of clarity can cause stress and confusion.

Clarity can be broken down into 3 core areas...Job Requirements, Information Flow & Organisational Impact

AREA 1:JOB REQUIREMENTS

Each person needs to understand exactly what is expected of them in their role. This is usually explained in the job description and includes key tasks and responsibilities.

These documents should be dynamic and evolve over time, keeping pace with the person’s learning and ability. Remember, all employees are different and some may need the contents verbalised.

AREA 2:INFORMATION FLOW

People need to have access to the right information to enable them to do their jobs effectively.

This should include primary information for task execution and supporting information for context. The contextual information offers room for more creative ideas as to how task responsibilities can evolve.

AREA 3:ORGANISATIONAL IMPACT

People have the opportunity to contribute more widely when they can see the bigger organisational picture.

Understanding how their own role fits into the wider process flow of the end-to-end business encourages cross-functional consideration and ideas, avoiding the missed opportunities of siloed thinking.

Consider the flow of information in your organisation. For example too much information can overwhelm a new starter, too little information can leave them feeling isolated. Learn to love the art of information flow in your organisation as it really does make a difference to the engagement and happiness of your employees.
